The following is a list of system fixes and enhancements/modifications including version and release date.

    Version 4.0.2 - 8/16/2010

MODIFICATION: SEO – In an effort to improve the Network’s search engine rankings we’ve modified the order in which each component of the page title meta tag displays. The order is now: event title | org name | venue name | category type | website name. We’ve found that search engines favor the most detailed information first and then extending out to include the most broad/general info (i.e. category name followed by website name).

FIX: Events edited in the Org Partner Self Management login were still showing up on the pending events admin page. Now they go directly to the website. Only new event submissions from the Org Partner Self Management login should appear in the pending events list for your approval. After that, any edited events should bypass the your admin panel and should display directly on the website.

FIX: Events associated with businesses were not showing up on the Business Detail page’s “Upcoming Events” tab. Now they do.

ENHANCEMENT: Along with the Date and User ID of when the event was first submitted, on the events admin detail form we’ve added the Date and User ID of when the event was last edited. This is a handy tool in case you have questions for the content staff person who last edited the event listing.

ENCANCEMENT: Icon Tool – We’re still working the “how to” guide for this feature but the new icon tool will allow you to create up to 5 icons that can appear next to an event’s title on the event detail page. An example of how this tool might be useful is if you wanted to tag the event as part of a specific membership program, an affiliate-related event, a participant in a discount ‘arts card’ program, etc. The icon include a pop up window where you can insert text and links.

FIX: The "other artist type" field wasn't working properly on the front end or admin forms. It now inserts and displays the “other artist type” correctly on the profile detail page.

FIX: Artist productions on event detail pages were not linking properly. It now correctly displays an “Artists” link in the quick links area of the event detail page if there is at least one registered artist who has associated themselves with that event.

ENHANCEMENT: We have added a new tab to the admin event detail form. The tab is labeled “Artists” and allows you as an administrator to associate a registered artist with an event. We have had many instances of site administrators contacting us to see if there was a way that they could make the association with an event on the artist’s behalf. Now you can.

FIX: Current/upcoming events on business detail pages were missing depending on how each site’s business type categories were configured. We found the problem. Now they show up.

FIX: The exception dates selection tool on the front end event submission form was duplicating the current day’s date over and over each time the date picker was selected. Now it doesn’t.

ENHANCEMENT: The widget tool now allows you to add theme-based regions/neighborhoods to the upper navigation links within the widget. If you have a need for this please contact networksupport@artsopolis.com and we can walk you through how this works.

ENHANCEMENT: The widget tool iframe output code now include javascript that includes a ‘back to top’ link to help users click back to the top of the widget page without having to scroll. This was important since the use of iframes sometimes leave the user on what appears to be a blank page, but in fact, the content of the page is actually there and ABOVE the page break.

MODIFICATION: The widget tool’s default inclusion range for events is now 90 days. The previous range was 60 days. This means that if you create a new widget and configure it to use a ‘feed’ to power it, if you don’t select a specific date range it will default to 90 days worth of events.

FIX: User reviews were not displaying on organization detail pages. Now they do.

FIX: Event category pages were not distinguishing between reviews and comments so it was lowering the star rating for events on the catgory page since it would calculate a comment as having a value of “0.” Comments no longer affect the star rating.

FIX: GOOGLE CHROME 5.0 - The date picker calendar on the front-end event submit form was working for June and July just fine but was stalling on August (the month name changed but the calendar dates didn't; they were remaining stuck in July). Now it’s fixed.

FIX: Spotlight and featured event selections were working fine on category pages, but not on theme pages. Now they work.

MODIFICATION: The org and venue drop menus on the Advanced Search page were widened to accommodate longer names.

FIX: On the admin event detail form the Primary event category type is required. When content staff was editing events without making a primary selection it would result in an error, wiping out any entered data. Now the form should keep the entered data when the error shows up, allowing you to select the primary type without having to re-enter all the data.

ENHANCEMENT: We now have 2 options for how event search results display. As you know, we segment events in the search results by their primary category type in alphabetical order. This was problematic for some sites that didn’t want to see categories like “Classes” at the very top of each search results list. We’ve now added a second default order that’s based on the order of your event category tabs on the main navigation bar. For example, some sites put “Theatre” or “Music” as their first navigation tab. We can now set your search results to follow that same order of display. Please contact networksupport@artsopolis.com if you’d like to request that we make that change for you.

    Version 4.0.1 - 2/17/2010

FIX: We have fixed an issue with the inclusion of the title of events in the event URLs and the “breadcrumb” navigation. An example of this is: http://sparkoc.com/event/detail/440623251/Wyatt_Earp. Slashes (“/”) and other non-alphanumeric characters were causing the links to break. We’ve developed a solution where those characters are removed from the URLs, thus repairing the links. Again, this feature is for improved search engine optimization.

ENHANCEMENT: We’ve added a placeholder graphic so that if an event is missing both a primary image and organization directory image, then the placeholder will ensure that there are no “blank holes” on any event pages. While we have provided a stock placeholder for all sites, you are free to send us your own version. It just needs to be 120 x 120 pixels.

ENHANCEMENT: Event home, category and detail pages now include the name of the venue/location under the event title. The format is as follows “Presented by [org name] at [venue name]”. This was to address feedback that consumers want to see where the event is taking place while scanning these listings, without having to drill down to the detail page each time. This formatting will also display on calendar “widgets” for those of you who have that module included in their system package.

FIX: We’ve made great strides this past week in improving server performance. Pages are loading much faster. We will continue to make improvements as we go along.

RECOMMENDATION: There have been a number of instances where administrators are getting kicked out of the admin control panel. We’ve made numerous modifications to address this and have resolved most instances. However, we’ve found that for those using IE8 their new ‘compatibility’ tool to allow the browser to work with IE7 designed sites is still causing some issues. We recommend using Firefox when working in the admin as it provides a more stable environment at this time.

FIX: Admin Home Page Template Update: We have addressed a major issue where ALL current/upcoming events were displaying on the home page template. As with the old system we have updated the home template to only display events that have been spotlighted or featured from category pages. Also, please note that when an event appears on the home page template, while it may have been featured on several category pages, it will only display ONCE on the home page template with its primary category type displaying in the type column. Based on the new home page column numbering system, you can feature any event in either the spotlight or any of the 4 featured columns by selecting the column number from the drop menu next to each event on the template.

FIX: We fixed an issue on the admin event detail form where the Copy function was setting the default display setting to “Yes”. It now defaults to “No” in order to avoid any potential for unapproved events appearing on the site.

FIX: We fixed an issue where current events were not showing up on Organization detail pages.

MODIFICATION: We are currently working on a series of adjustments to the search function. Currently there are too many results displayed for certain keywords. The problem is that if some searches on a fairly common keyword – i.e. dance, center, stage, etc. – the search results will display ALL events that have those keywords in the event title, org name AND description field. As a result, the expected event may appear on page 2, 3 or 4 of the results list. We are developing a solution that should be in place over the next 2-3 days.
