How to Create a Widget
Log into admin control panel
Click Widget tab link on the top nav
Click Add button
Enter Partner name (required)
Top Image: Upload a header using the browse button (optional)
Promos/Advertising: Upload any ad banners or corporate logos & links (optional)
Bottom Banner: Upload a footer image or add content (optional)
Google Analytics Code: Paste code here (optional)
Javascript Code: (optional, and not used that often)
Description: Any content you add here will appear below the search bar but above the event listing (optional)
Set Widget Self Management radio button (required)
- Homepage - this setting populates your widget with every event from your site.
- Complete Widget - means that ONLY selected events will appear on the widget’s home page, category pages AND search results, giving you complete control of the events that display. In other words, it's a blank shell that is filled with events based on your specific parameters.
Set Links Pointing To radio button (required)
- Widget - Selecting this keeps the user in the widget calendar when viewing event details (i.e., no traffic to your site)
- Website - Selecting this sends the user to your site to view event details.
In the Users box, click "widgetadmin" and then click ADD >> to move it over into the Widget Admins box
Click SAVE
Log out of the admin control panel
Now log into the Widget Admin. To do this, use the same log in page but instead of using your normal login information, use:
- username: widgetadmin
- password: passw0rd
Click on the Widget link you created. This will take you to the Display Management page for your new Widget.
In the left nav, click the Populate Widget link
Populate Widget radio buttons
- Selection with Feed - Using the “feed” population method inserts ONLY EVENTS into the calendar display widget. Venue/attraction and group/theme selections are NOT available in the “feed” mode.
- Individual Selection - this setting is for complete control over your widget. It allows you to individually select specific events, venues/attractions, or groups/themes from a comprehensive dropdown list via an administrative control panel.
In the Service Info section, your widget title will appear in the Service Name field. You are required to enter a description in the Feed Description field. This is generally a brief description but
In the Service Status, click the "on" radio button.
In the Feed Info section, change the View Type to XML. This method is preferred.
If you are controlling the information displayed on your widget, select the categories from the Event Type field. You can select mulitple categories by holding down the control button on your keyboard.
Select a Date Range. The default is 90 days but yuo can select 7, 14, 30, 90 day or 6 months.
If you are controlling the organizations that are displayed on your widget, select the orgs from the Organization field. You can select mulitple categories by holding down the control button on your keyboard. The same is true for Venues, Cities, Zip codes and Age Range.
Click SAVE. This will save your information and populate the Test ID # and the Api Key.
In the left nav bar, click the Widget Details link.
You can preview your widget by clicking on the Preview Widget link under the SAVE button in the upper right.
Please note: widget calendars cache once a day (2:00AM PST) so any changes you make to the calendar will not been seen until the following day.
